"Masterman is a dream come true"
Overall the parents that we interviewed had largely positive feelings about Masterman High School. They felt that the drop in School District of Philadelphia (SDP) funding throughout the past few years had a largely negative impact on Masterman and greatly limited the resources and opportunities available to the school and community. However, they noted with optimism that they felt that Masterman continues to provide high quality education to their children in spite of this financial scarcity. Regarding the Masterman teachers, both parents had glowing sentiments of the teachers’ thoughtfulness, responsiveness, and high quality of teaching. Both parents described the Masterman community as being “all of Philadelphia.” This echoes our own findings that the Masterman community is highly decentralized in regards to its geographic location. The parents also commented that the Masterman student population is highly diverse. Both parents expressed that “Masterman is a dream come true” for them, as well as for any parent that gets to send their children there.
