Penn AlexanderSadie Tanner Mossell Alexander University of Pennsylvania Partnership School (commonly referred to as “Penn Alexander”) serves kindergarten through eighth grade students who reside within its catchment area in the Spruce Hill neighborhood of West Philadelphia. Since its opening in 2001, the school has been widely recognized for its ample resources, experienced faculty and innovative instruction. The students at Penn Alexander consistently receive scores higher than the state average on standardized tests and regularly go on to attend Philadelphia's highest-performing high schools.
The effects of gentrification were visible throughout our visits to the catchment area. We toured the neighborhood, spoke with residents, and researched the history of the school. Ultimately, we obtained a multi-faceted perspective that will inform our practice as we engage with Penn Alexander's students, families and greater community. |
